Poet and orator Dr. Maya Angelou died May 28, 2014 in her home in Winston Salem North Carolina. She will forever be remembered for her wisdom and inspiring spirit that led others to be someone else’s rainbow in the clouds.
I’m a woman, phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me.” –Maya Angelou
Beautiful is my favorite word in the English language
It towers bold and triumphant
Transcending realms
Not needing clarification
Welling up from within
Reaching from the depth of a soul
Pouring fluidly from cracks and pores
Becoming transparent in actions
Making it a description, one’s character trait
Beautiful explains life’s unexplainable
Like ideals such as love
And God’s divine manifesto
Of the emotion evoked in an untraceable place
From the creative imagery of a poetical wordsmith
Like the dynamic spirit of Dr. Maya Angelou
Her words danced rhythmically on a page
Wittingly telling your women
That the bends of their hair
The curves of their lips
The sway of their hips
The richness of their skin
The history from which they extend
Is beautiful
Her own rhetoric told us she was exception
A colorful illumination amidst someone else’s dark shadows
That’s true indeed
And to me
That’s eternally
Beautiful
To a Hero who’s words have and will continue to inspire generations, especially young women like myself, who need to be reminded that they are beautiful. Rest in Paradise Dr. Angelou… Our historical Angel
